With little help from my friends..

This is a desperate plea to all those bookworms, literary lovers && "feet in the sky - nose in a book" type girls (&&boys) <3 As an avid reader I am always on the look out for book lists/suggestions (something I often talk with my penpals about) But after reading four amazing books in a row I feel I may have stumbled into a little bit of a dry spell!! 1 week with no new book in sight! *gasp*

So here is what I ask - via comment, email, snail mail or carrier pigeon please send me a list (long or short!) of books you would recommend.. I don't like trying to fit my tastes into a genre - so below are two lists - books I've recently read and loved & all time favorites. A lot of love to anyone who replies & saves me from my literary slump :) - peace && love

  1. A guy from work just lent me The Last Lecture without telling me anything about it - but I think I'll probably enjoy it based on your recommendation :) I am a big fan of Cooks Hill Books too. I used to love visiting the duo of Blackbird Corner and Cooks Hill Books. I'm looking forward to going back home to Newcastle in a couple of months and visiting them.

My books (you may have already read)
+ Company and Jennifer Government by Max Barry (excellent Australian writer - these are my favourite books)
+ Snow Falling on Cedars - David Guterson
+ The Virgin Suicides - Jeffrey Eugenides
+ How The Light Gets In - MJ Hyland

I don't read anywhere near as much as I should.

  2. If you haven't yet read them, the Scotland Street novels by Alexander McCall Smith are an absolute delight, as are the books in the Sunday Philosophy Club series. There are quite a few books in each series now, so they could keep you going for quite a while.

As an avid bookworm, you've surely read enough "classics" to enjoy Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels, beginning with "The Eyre Affair". Time travelling through the world of fiction - fantastic!

Also, I think they may be out of print, but Peter Morwood's series "The Horse Lord", "The Demon Lord", "The Dragon Lord" and "The Warlord's Domain" are wonderful. I fell instantly in love with Aldric Talvalin.......

I don't think anybody has made films of any of these books (yet), so you can make your own pictures in your head. Always the best way, I think!

    Happy reading!

  3. I just watched the last lecture on youtube in one of my classes. So inspiring!

I recently read Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard which you'd probably enjoy. It's a neat travel story. So is What Scotland Taught Me by Molly Ringle. Let it Snow is a book of 3 stories, one of which is by John Green. I like anything by Siobhan Vivian. Her books are really empowering to girls.

Hope you find something to read! I'm always looking for new stuff on goodreads. :)

  4. Some of my favorite books:
    - Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh
    - Shanghai Girls by Lisa See
    - all novels by Jane Austen
    - A walk to remember by Nicholas Sparks
    - Wicked by Gregory Maguire
    - The Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich (I think they are such a nice pasttime and really funny)

As you can see, I don't stick to a certain genre as well.

    Happy reading!
